Ten minutes, in your words: what the task is, how often it comes around, which systems it touches, and what makes it slow.
Run it once more
A discovery analyst sits with you while you do the real task. They note each step, screen and decision, time the work (never the person), and collect blank or redacted samples. Nothing to prepare.
We build
That one run becomes the developers’ work package. They build what fits: a bot that drives the screens, a connection between systems, AI, or a script — or scope a small app when that’s what it needs.
You stop
The automation takes over. You check the first few runs with us, then you don’t do it by hand again.
We count the hours
The time the task used to take is reported as capacity returned to your team, in the district’s Accomplishment Ledger once your manager signs off. Counted for the team and the work, never for a person.
Every project makes one of two promises
The task stops eating your team’s week — hours returned every week. We track it as capacity, in your team’s own words, and never dress it up as budget savings.
The work displaces a technology the district licenses. Name it — we’ll verify the cost. When the contract actually shrinks, that’s a saving with your team’s name on it.
The two are always reported separately — honest numbers are the whole point.

What is Time Back?
It’s the front door to DIT’s Business Process Automation team: describe a task your team does by hand, and the team watches it run once and builds what runs it for you. It is also where staff pitch AI ideas they’ll build themselves with DIT’s credits, and the system of record for both: every check-in and every measured result lives here — so when we say a project returned hours to a team, there’s a ledger behind the claim.
Who can use it?
Any FCPS staff member. You sign in with your FCPS Google account — no new password, no separate registration. Browsing this page requires nothing at all.
What happens after I describe a task?
A person — not an algorithm — reads it and may ask a clarifying question or two. If the Business Process Automation team takes it on, a discovery analyst talks it through with your team and asks to watch the task run once; that run becomes the developers’ work package. You can follow it under My submissions, and you’re notified at your FCPS email at each stage.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Describe the task and the Business Process Automation team builds it. If you would rather build an AI tool yourself, DIT supports citizen developers through the build.
Is this about replacing people?
No — and the program’s charter forbids it from even measuring that way. Nothing in the portal records or evaluates staffing or individual performance. What we measure is time given back to teams, and teams attest to those numbers themselves.
How do you measure success?
Honestly, and in two separate ledgers: hours returned to teams (capacity), and costs avoided when a tool replaces something we pay for (displacement). We never mix the two into one headline number, and no result is published until the benefiting team’s manager signs off on it.
What are AI credits?
The second path. Credits are prepaid AI usage that DIT buys centrally and invests in projects staff build themselves. If your idea is backed, your team gets its own provider project with a real budget — you build with it, and the portal tracks what’s used. Your school or office doesn’t pay anything.
What kinds of AI ideas qualify for credits?
Skills, agents, and small apps: a drafting assistant for a recurring document, an agent that answers a team’s common questions, a small tool that turns a spreadsheet ritual into a button. The best pitches name a specific task, who does it today, and how often.
What about AI that makes judgment calls?
Ideas whose AI reasons over people or decisions get an additional architecture and governance review before they can be delivered. That gate has no exceptions — it’s how an idea earns trust, not a hoop.
Why do I have to sign in to submit?
So your submission is yours: signing in with your FCPS account attaches your identity once, lets you track and edit your drafts, and means nobody can submit in your name. This public page itself sets no cookies and asks you for nothing.
